Trash Puppy
This is my 'trashy' continuation of Chinitas' "Marlboro Corpses" post (05/26/09). This was actually taken in 2002 in Bangkok! I was walking by an abandoned property (which always ends up turning into a dumping ground unfortunately) and saw this little one sitting in the middle of that pile. I managed to snap this before he/she scampered off to play with a sibling.
I like that its the same piece of land but has such a clear divide –notice that the front half is all black and gray trash while the back is all completely lush and green. Felt like a sort of commentary on where we are as humans progress more and leave what used to be the planet behind or something.
Also, this was taken on a 2 megapixel Olympus point and shoot. WHOAH now! 2????

Ha! I like this! I actually have a trash puppy too that i have to post now! something about this picture make my mind wander! great stuff.
Yeah, there's definitely a narrative in there somewhere. I particularly enjoy looking at the logos of the trash- DQ and Pepsi are in English but Coke isn't?
Great photo. I love seeing the glimpses of life in other parts of the world from our more traveled, globetrotting contributors!
Amazing how technology changes- I remember in 2000 buying a Nikon film camera and being told that digital would have a hard time ever catching up to the quality of image that a film slr or medium format camera could provide. Now dslrs have all but made medium format and film obsolete.
I like how you can see nature and human destruction at the same time... and of course how the animals adapt to the new environment that they are forced to live...
Ya! I didnt even think about the narrative of humans self destructing when I took it –all I thought was oh puppy on trash! But reflecting on it afterwards I always thought that was a cool accident.
Reminds me, you guys should check out this docu/program (I think on History Channel) called "Life After People". One of the episodes did a whole thing on the pets and what would happen if people just disappeared. Totally captivating and interesting.
PS. John, its funny you're drawn to the DQ cup. I never realized it before but I TOTALLY associate DQ as a 'trash' jersey thing! hahah. Only cos everytime I have it, I'm at a rundown old DQ in Jersey.
wHERE THE TRASH PUPPY ?
DON'T SEE IT.
LOOKED THROUGH A LOT OF PICS FROM OTHERS AND MANY OF THEM ARE EXTREMELY GOOD SHOTS. FORGET ABOUT LIGHTING AND ALL. HIS IS A COMMENT FROM A LAYMAN WHO ISN'T CREATIVE BUT JUST HAS OWN OPINIONS ON WHAT IS PLEASING TO ME AND WHAT IS NOT.
OK, THE TRASH PUPPY JUST APPEARED AS IF BY MAGIC !
