New friends: Fancy Pigeons
About a week and a half ago, on our way to the car we saw a cluster of pigeons in the street. We got to looking closely and noticed that they weren't just any kind of pigeon—these had additional feathers down their legs, some had long feathers above their feet, and others had these really lovely splotches of color around their necks. I haven't been too much of a fan of pigeons, but I have to say, this group is like seeing a unicorn to me. Notice the green on the one at top right below and the fluffy feet of the two in photo below, at bottom left. I had to act quick for the last set of photos, since a car came by and scared them off.

I remember you telling me about these pigeons. I don't know what kinda crazy stuff goes down in Red Hook, but these look like some sort of pigeon/eagle/falcon hybrid. I like your third shot against the street backdrop with all the birds having different wing angles.
Woops, I just realized that what I thought was the first two photos is actually just one! That horizontal white line in the center threw me off! In that case, your SECOND photo is my favorite!
I really like that white line dividing the photo. The way the top pigeons are walking out of the frame and the bottom ones coming more towards the camera.
Wow! It's not easy capturing a bird in motion. Well done. The third one is my favorite.
Great series! All great shots. But I definitely smile when I look at the brown guy bottom left of first pic. I can see him waddling all funny.
It's funny that many pointed out the white line. I cut the center out of that image since the shot was sort of distant looking and the birds were on either side of the space. Since the top and bottom that were left didn't fit right, I just put a white line to show that it was pushed closer together.
These pigeons make me very happy. Whenever we go walking now, I have to go down that street to look for them and watch for a minute.
